Biodiversity in Western Australia Art Exhibition
Weekend Walks, 2020
Original Art: Oil on Raw Linen Canvas
During my time as a zoologist, I organised the inaugural Biodiversity in Western Australia art exhibition, presented by the Environmental Consultants Association and sponsored by the City of Perth. The exhibition, which was held in December 2020, was a group art exhibition by 30 local west Australian artists. I also participated in the exhibition, and created this work, Weekend Walks, especially for it.
This piece is a collection of flora that I have observed on many walks and hikes through our suburbs and remnant bushlands; acorn banksia, mottlecah, blue leschenaultia, flowering gum, grevillea and wattle. I chose to represent more commonly encountered native species, as the remaining biodiversity in urban environments is something that we must cherish and protect, or risk losing forever.
A limited edition of 100 prints of this work are available here.
