Flower Market - Collection 009
Inspired by the delicate intricacies of a flower’s epicenter, large scale abstract floral works of Georgia O’Keeffe, graphic posters, pastel hues and the cacophony of colour and awakening of senses at a flower market.
Artwork Details
Clockwise from top left.
Rose of Jenna – Based on a macro photograph of the flower, Rose of Sharon (Common Hibiscus) by a friend. This piece is delicate, but almost abstract in nature, and focuses on creating softness of form with the pastel colour palette and brushstrokes. I whitewashed the oak frame to complement the artwork.
Oil on board, vintage white waxed frame. Framed dimensions 685mm wide x 675mm high.
Marché aux Fleurs – This poster translating to 'Flower Market' was inspired by graphic posters for flower markets across the globe. I chose the subtle pink and peach background and vibrant magenta to pick up on the petal colours in Rose of Jenna and Pastel Window.
Homemade gouache on fine art watercolour paper, contemporary natural wood frame, acrylic glazing. Framed dimensions 530mm x 790mm.
Darling Tulips – The vase painted in this piece is by Earth Darlings Ceramics (see here). I love the organic quality to these pieces, which is echoed in the textural application of paint. The wonky graphic shapes of the planter are juxtaposed with the soft forms of the tulips, whose petals mimic the patterns on the planter.
Mixed media, oil on canvas. Unframed, 310mm x 310mm.
Pastel Window - A sweet abstract block pattern to break up the organic forms of the other pieces. I also created a custom plastered frame to add another dimension to this work, and link to the Plaster Flower above.
Oil on board, custom plaster frame. Framed dimensions 320mm x 265m.
Plaster Flower - This piece is a three dimensional sculptural work. I have created a plaster flower and mounted it on a plaster base. It can be hung or placed on a shelf where light hits and creates shadow.
Plaster, wood, 120mm x 120mm.
Petals – Also creating a sculptural form is this artwork which stands in relief from the canvas. Each brushstroke emulates the form of a petal.
Mixed media on canvas. Unframed, 355mm wide x 460mm high.

- Acrylic is much safer than glass as it is less prone to breakage, and it is also lighter than traditional glass. Because it is acrylic, it can easily scratch and requires special care when cleaning and handling. If cleaning, only use a lint-free microfiber cloth. Avoid using glass cleaners that contain ammonia or alcohol, as this can damage the artwork.
